Friends not functioning properly

I have been invited to be a friend, as well as invited others, but none of us seems able to accept the invites. Sometimes it will give an "invite accepted" message but nothing happens, and other times it just doesn't do anything at all. I have tried this on both IE 7 and Firefox 2, just in case it was browser-related, but nothing. Please advise. Thanks!
