Black thumbnail

thread description

Hi, I uploaded an animation and it seemed to go fine, but the thumbnail is black (which happens to be the opening frame of the movie). Any way to change it? Also, the quality isn’t the greatest. The source is 720x480 Sorenson. Any tips on getting better quality?

Thanks for your time,

James

Codecs

There are some trade-offs here - your upload time (and in some locales, expense) versus quality.

The better the quality of the source animation you supply, the better the chance that it will look good in the player after conversion (speaking of bitmap formats here of course, not .swf files.)

Sorenson3 is a fairly decent and modern compressed format (in contrast to many.) All other things being equal, a lossless format would hold best possibility of a good result - something like the Quciktime "Animation" codec for example (if the piece is short and/or upload times are not an issue for you.) On the compressed side, you might try H.264 for comparison.

On the 'black thumbnail; issue, at the moment there is no way to change this (again, it's different for .swf uploads.) This is an ommision we are aware of, and we hope to have something better in place before long.
