OIAF Awards: Best Student Animation and Best Undergraduate Animation

Kara Nasdor-Jones charmed the Ottawa International Animation Festival this year with her well-received animation I Slept With Cookie Monster – taking home the Grand Prize for Best Undergraduate Animation and the MyToons Grand Prize for Best Student Animation. Written, animated, and directed by Kara, the animation tells a story of one woman’s experience with domestic violence, taking the viewer through the ups and downs of her relationship and her struggle to move on.

A graduate of animation with honors from Massachusetts College of Art and Design, Kara is currently freelancing while submitting her work to festivals and domestic violence programs, along with guest speaking at local Boston colleges. She’s keeping busy these days by continuing her quest for full time work and taking care of her daughter who has recently entered the TERRIBLE TWO’S…

So what’s going on at Ottawa this year? OIAF has released the list of 105 films, chosen from a record breaking 2149 entries, invited to compete in this years festival – congrats to those chosen! As a proud Ottawa sponsor, we can’t wait to catch a glimpse of these selected films.

September 17 – 21, Aaron Augenblick and Koji Yamamura are returning to the fest, in addition to an anniversary screening of Who Framed Roger Rabbit? Also on the OIAF agenda: retrospectives on Jonas Odell, Christopher Mills, and Michael Sporn.
