Strengths Strong, bold interface. Definately an original, novel interface. Weaknesses Constant movement makes the interface a little hard to read and a bit distracting. Not sure which section signifies hours, minutes or seconds? Unsure as to whether it is AM or PM. Opportunities Could use color to differentiate hours, minutes and seconds. Could keep those components of the interface that have reached their pinacle still and no longer moving and therefore that would signal a constant value. Threats Too much calculating of the time by the user could make it difficult to quickly or accurately tell the time.

The simple interface is nice and clean, making it look rather sophisticated. I don't think the use of colour would add anything to it, but in saying that, it is a little hard to actually read the time off it. Maybe some dotted lines in the background that correspond with the markers could assist with this.

In practical terms, I imagine that having it as an actual watch would certainly test your eyesight and your patience.

Also I'm intrigued as to how you will actually make it tell real time, and integrate seconds as well, I will look forward to seeing the final 'watch'.

Strengths

  • This is a very creative and original example of how to tell the time
  • Would probably work quite well in a watch style interface
  • Visibly good Flash animation skills
  • I actually like the simple black/white look of it and think it would stand out really well on a watch

Weaknesses

  • Doesn't (yet?) tell the correct time.
  • Took me a bit of time to get my head around how to read it.
  • The lines which hit the third marker actually extend above it, making it a little confusing.
  • There is no indication of seconds

Opportunities

  • Maybe have some numeric indicators to make adding up the numbers a bit easier
  • Without reading the instructions below. there is no way of telling which areas indicate hours, minutes etc. Everyone hates reading instructions so some labels would probably help. This may be unnecessary if you have numeric indicators
  • Because the clock hasn't yet been programmed to tell the correct time I won't comment on your ActionScript skills. Hopefully it isn't too difficult.

Threats

No foreseeable threats.

Overall

I'm really interested to see where you head with this design in the future. Looking forward to seeing the finished product. Good luck.

Nice simple interface. The lack of a seconds value is a little disappointing, the bars appear to bounce up a little less than once per second. Nice and easy to read, once you get used to the bouncing, perhaps a little distracting watching them bounce while trying to figure out what values they are hitting. It took me a few seconds to calculate as it bounced.

Assessment criteria:
• Creativity in representing the time. - Original and creative, nobody would know it was a watch unless they were told, I like that.
• Production values of the visual content. - Not particularly striking, lacking in colour. Does have a simplistic, uncluttered look to it.
• An accurate representation of the time. - Accurately represents the time given, minus seconds. Looking forward to seeing it with full coding to reflect system time. Seconds would make it more accurate though.

Suggestions: Some colour in the interface would be nice. Also a seconds representation would help with the accuracy. I like the originality, good basis to grow the idea.

White hat: Doesn't work in real time but the animation give us the idea on how it works. Instruction took me a bit to understand but I ended up figuring them out by myself.

Red hat: Looks a bit plain on first impressions but the idea is cool (how the bars keep moving up and down).

Black hat: doesn't pop out, looks very basic, needs maybe colour, interface is hard to read at first and I kept loosing count as the bars moved up and down to quick

Yellow hat: Its works and tells the time, the basic idea is there and has potential to be better.

Green hat: The basic concept and creativity is in the project, it just needs to be reinforced.

Blue hat: I haven't seen anything like it and the idea on how the watch tells the time appeals to me but it is too basic at this point.
