Now Playing: TokyoFlash watch prototype mach 1

Details:

This is my first draft/prototype for my TokyoFlash watch. I was a bit confused as to what was required; were we supposed to use what we learned on ActionScipt to create it or create a completely... [more]

Strengths Good seperation of Hours, Minutes, Seconds into seperate clock faces as well as use of color to signify Hours (Cyan), Minutes (Blue), Seconds (Red). Shows both ActionScript and Flash proficiency. Very effective in telling the time and no legend would be required. Weaknesses Lacking a more creative aspect to present the time in a non-traditional sense. No way of telling whether it is AM or PM. Opportunities With the mechanics of the clock working well in real time there exists the oppportunity to simply change the interface itself. Could make the clock easier to read if the Hours was the larger component and the Seconds the smaller component. Threats May not address brief successfully in terms of an Original, Novel interface. Still requires credits, a legend if required and the ability to switch to 11:59 PM and 1:01 AM.

Red (emotions): It's good man, and kinda has this functional modernism feel to it. It resembles a normal clock though, but i like that the perspective and hierarchy is flipped. White (facts): Works properly and with real time. No directions but it doesn't need it. Yellow (positives): Good colour scheme, and I like that the background is black. It let's the clock pop out and gives it individual importance. I also like how the hour hand is in front of the minute hand which is in front of the seconds hands. It counters the hierarchy of the clock faces and gives a cool dynamic depth to it. Black (negatives): Too similar to a real clock. Also, pimp out the hands and the face to give it more detail and personality. It's only the first draft anyways. Green(creativity): Cool way to display the analog time, but don't restrict yourself to making it look a time device. Go wild. Blue (summary): You might be able to keep it the way it is though because you won't want to have to make it again. Just customize the hands and stuff.

Strengths:
* Bold choice of colours to help give the watch an individual appeal
* Very easy to read due to the apparent familiar design of mass produced analog watches
* Accurate down to the second
* The clock works as it was intended to do
* Opposing choice of primary colours help to differentiate the hours so they don't blend in when in proximity of each other
* Easy to put into production
* Clearly demonstrated necessary skills in both flash animation and actionscripting

Weaknesses:
* The numbering of the minutes hand creates an odd visual look since there is no numbering anywhere else
* The minutes hand and seconds hand are both within close proximity of sharing the same starting axis, yet are just slightly seperate so that they look slightly disjointed
* Shows no differentiation between am and pm

Opportunities:
* See if you can either seperate the minutes and seconds hands from the same starting place, or move them onto the same one somehow.
* Less bright colours so that it is more appealing to a wider market
* If you are happy to keep a very bright theme for the colours, choose another one for the backplate of the hours display so it blends in. The grey doesn't visually flow with your choice of primary colours.

Overall:
* The choice of keeping it in the fashion of an analog watch is a good choice in many ways since it will help make it appeal to a much wider market. With that said, the colouring of a couple of already mentioned items could perhaps be changed to keep the design in a uniform fashion. Overall, a soundly constructed piece with a sturdy actionscript base behind it and easy functionality. Good work!

Strengths:

The design is similar to a traditional analog clock, people are familiar with the interface and will be able to tell the time.

The Bright contrasting colour's will make it easy to tell what the time is in low light conditions

The clock is working as expected it is telling me the correct time.

Weakness's:

The strengths are also potential weakness's the use of familiar analog clock design limits the creative aspects, almost all combinations of this familiar interface have been created and seen before.

The colour's clash i do not think they compliment each other

There is no way to tell am/pm

Improvement's/Recommendations:

Rework the colour scheme i would suggest removing the white part as it stands out and is distracting i would suggest darker colour's for the background but keep the bright clock hands

Make the second hand go over the hour hand instead of passing under it.

Conclusion:

The three distinct circles for minutes hours and seconds are a cool idea, albeit it not very novel. If it had a better colour scheme i would have no problems wearing it.

Constructive Critique

Pros: Good working clock Synchronized to real time Nice simple interface Easy to understand Creative design Cons: Hour hand perhaps not moving with the right amount of degrees The color scheme may be a little to distracting Hour clock face a little hard to read because of the small numbers Conclusion: I personally think it's great, it's working, it tells the current time, only needs some minor adjustments before it's a watch I would happy wear.
