I think it's the way his upper body sways back and forth. I mean, have you seen anyone lean back that far when they run? If anything, it should take place in front of him so that he's leaning forward (you know, for forward motion). Definitely look into the book chickeniam mentioned - very very helpful.

I agree with you about the running backwards thing. I think it has to do with his feet. They seem a bit stiff.

Your drawings individualy seem to have a nice energy about them and they're quite good. I like them.

The running movment is a good first attempt, but it needs some work I HIGHLY recommend you read the book, The Animator's Survival Kit by Richard Williams. Fantastic stuff, lives up to its name i think.

KEEP IT UP! THere can never be to many animators!!!!
